The election result matters less than it seems

A torn 100-real note and a torn 100-dollar note, in front of a city at night.

At first glance, there is only one subject. Even the international bulletins we follow, such as those from Bull Theory, commented on the effect of the renewal on the Brazilian market. There was optimism. And optimism, let us admit, is a scarce input. It is not for anyone to arrive and put out the party.

What cryptography in the palm of the hand delivers, though, is not a better candidate. It is a limit. Whoever comes to power usually also arrives with the capacity to silence. To silence finances, in this case. The network does not stop the person elected from governing. It does stop the office, by itself, from being enough to lay a hand on what is protected by a private key. It is not an institutional limit. It is a technical limit.

Money does not correct the habit

Economics, if we are honest, is a long-term attitude. Nobody builds real value between one count and the next. And there is an uncomfortable fact, already known to anyone who watches sudden fortune: a great deal of money, very fast, tends to do more harm than good. The person arrives with the habits they already had. It is the habits, not the balance, that change an economic life. Someone who already has means would pay, if they could, to correct traits of personality they do not like. Wealth does not erase a flaw.

Jiu-jitsu makes this concrete. You do not become a black belt because you paid more. You can buy a private lesson and invest more hours. Even so, diet, sleep, and focus have no shelf price. Means improve the support. They do not solve the main thing.

Government A or government B

In Brazil it is common to tie one’s own economic condition to whoever is in government. The illusion is almost total. Room to breathe, and the search for a better life, depend more on posture, vitality, imagination, and a craft. Manual work, a language, a tool, patience to stay hours on a project: that adds up. The political environment enters when it cuts imagination. In a place where there are only twenty haircuts and a short menu of professions, talent becomes almost decoration. Wanting to sculpt ice in the northeastern sertão runs into the terrain, not the will. You can turn the vision into something else. You cannot ignore the ground.

From there, the practical part, the same one as when people talk about remote work and about getting paid in crypto. A second language. If possible, a second passport. And wealth that moves without asking permission from a correspondent bank. The Sovereign Individual, still in the 1990s, already described this move: whoever carries a craft and value is no longer so exposed to the political crises of South America.

The tool, besides, does not pick a side. If you trust candidate A and treat B as the villain, or the reverse, the protection is the same. Not being at someone else’s mercy. It is not a party question. It is the possibility of disagreeing without the disagreement becoming a mortal risk.
